English Tuition for students in Years 3-9
Helping young people become confident, capable English studentsEnglish isn't just about spelling tests, book reports and getting through the next school assessment. It's about being able to understand what you're reading, express yourself clearly, write with confidence, and work out what a question is actually asking you to do.And for some students, English just doesn't seem to click. That's where I come in.Psychology-informed English tuition for Years 3–9, designed around the individual student rather than a one-size-fits-all programme.
English tuition that meets your child where they are
At KS2 and KS3, students are building the foundations that will eventually support GCSE English Language and Literature. That doesn't mean they need to start doing GCSE-style lessons years early; it means developing the underlying skills properly, while helping students become increasingly confident and independent learners.
Depending on your child's needs, we might work on:
Reading & comprehension
Understanding texts, finding information, making inferences, exploring vocabulary and explaining ideas clearly.
Writing
Creative and descriptive writing, structure, vocabulary, sentence construction, planning and developing ideas.
Grammar, spelling & punctuation
Building accuracy and understanding without turning every session into a worksheet full of SPaG exercises.
Vocabulary & communication
Developing the words and language needed to express ideas clearly, both on paper and aloud.
Schoolwork & assessments
Providing support with current topics, homework, upcoming assessments or areas where your child has started to struggle. *Please note: this does not mean I will complete the student's homework or assessments for them, but can help them to understand what is required, the underlying topic(s), and/or any methods involved.
Building GCSE foundations
For older KS3 students, we can begin developing the analytical, reading and writing skills they'll eventually need at GCSE, without rushing them into a GCSE curriculum before they're ready.
