Year 10 Step Up To GCSE programmes

Building strong foundations early - for confidence that lasts through GCSEs.

Who these courses are for

The Year 10 Step Up to GCSE programmes are designed for students beginning their GCSE journey. They are ideal for students who want to:

  • Gain confidence before the demands of Year 11

  • Strengthen key skills in English Language and/or Literature

  • Build habits of analysis, writing, and revision that stick

  • Stay motivated with structured, weekly guidance

Parents can choose to enrol their child in English Language, English Literature, or both programmes, depending on their needs.

What the courses cover

English Language (AQA)

  • Developing secure comprehension and analysis skills for unseen texts

  • Writing clearly and effectively for different purposes

  • Learning how to structure answers to meet exam expectations

  • Building vocabulary, accuracy, and fluency in written responses

English Literature (AQA)

  • Introduction to set texts most commonly taught(Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, A Christmas Carol, and Power & Conflict poetry)*

  • Exploring key themes, characters, and contexts

  • Building close-reading and annotation skills

  • Practising extended written responses with guided support

Both courses are taught in a way that gradually introduces exam skills while maintaining a strong focus on understanding and enjoyment of texts.

*Students studying different texts can either form their own small group (2-4 students) for tailored coverage, or opt for 1-to-1 tuition for fully individualised support.

Why small groups work

Small groups (2-4 students) mean:

  • Personalised attention from the tutor

  • Peer support and motivation from others on the same journey

  • Affordable pricing compared to 1-to-1 tuition
