About Me.

Hi, I’m Victoria Sheers - the tutor behind Mindset-First Tutoring.

I’ve been tutoring for over 10 years, supporting students in English, maths, and study skills up to GCSE level. Alongside this experience, I trained as a tutor with the University of Exeter, completed an MSc in Psychology, and plan to pursue a PhD in Educational Psychology when my daughter is a little older.

My fascination with how the mind works has shaped both my academic journey and my tutoring style. I went on to study Clinical Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), not to work as a therapist, but to deepen my understanding of how thoughts, habits, and mindset shape learning. These approaches gave me powerful tools for building resilience, motivation, and growth mindset strategies that I now weave into my tutoring.

After leaving Exeter University in 2013, I began tutoring through FirstTutors, where my qualifications are verified and where parents and students have shared their experiences of working with me. You can visit my profile to read these testimonials and gain an independent perspective on the support I provide.

All of these experiences led me to create Mindset-First Tutoring: a hybrid, holistic support model that puts student wellbeing at the centre of learning. My approach blends academic teaching with practical mindset coaching strategies, helping students build confidence, resilience, and healthy study habits alongside strong educational outcomes.I work with a wide range of learners, including neurodivergent students, those who may feel anxious about learning, and those who simply need a fresh approach. Every student is unique, so I adapt my sessions to their needs - combining structure with encouragement, and challenge with compassion.

When I’m not tutoring, I work for the University of Worcester Library Services as Student Engagement Coordinator, mum to Adelaide, and a creative at heart (fitting in a few pet portraits each year). I love exploring how ideas connect, whether through books, nature, or conversations with my students. For me, tutoring isn’t just a job - it’s about lighting that spark of curiosity and showing students that they are capable of so much more than they often believe.

What you can expect when working with me:

  • A calm, supportive space where students feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow

  • A focus on confidence as well as content

  • Practical strategies for learning that actually stick

  • A friendly, professional tutor who truly cares about your child’s progress and wellbeing

If you’d like to find out how I can support your child, feel free to get in touch - I’d love to hear from you.
